The Judges
Georgia's superior court judges are elected state judges who hear felony cases. For most charges a county magistrate sets bail soon after arrest; for the most serious felonies only a superior court judge can.

The Board of Commissioners
They pay for the jail. The sheriff runs it.
- What they controlThe county budget that funds the sheriff's office and the jail, and the jail building itself. Some small counties have a sole commissioner; consolidated governments such as Athens-Clarke, Augusta-Richmond, Columbus and Macon-Bibb have a commission instead.
- What they don'tDay-to-day operations. By law the sheriff is the jailer of the county and appoints the other jailers, subject to the governing authority's supervision (O.C.G.A. 42-4-1). No state agency inspects the jail.

Notes on the record
- Sheriff's own page names Sheriff Kevin Chaney (James Kevin Chaney).
- Inmate Services page names the facility the 'Camden County Safety Complex'; the inmate handbook and Corrections page call it the Public Safety Complex, 209 E. 4th Street, Woodbine.
- Corrections page links the sheriff's online inmate inquiry (NewWorld InmateInquiry for Camden County).
- Bail Bond Companies page explains bonding under O.C.G.A. 17-6-15, says all bonding takes place at the Public Safety Complex and lists bonding companies.
- Inmate handbook (rev. Dec 2022) publishes fees: $1 intake, $4 shower shoes, $2 inmate kit, $5 medical copay, $1 monthly commissary maintenance, $21 phone card, $5 armband replacement.
- Handbook prohibits sexual harassment but has no PREA reporting section; no PREA page found.
- Finance Division page says the sheriff's budget becomes part of the county budget and that the division manages contracts and inmate medical invoices, but no budget or contract documents are posted there.
- Commissary, video visitation and messaging run through outside vendors (Legacy Commissary, JailATM); rates are not stated on the sheriff's pages.
- Woodbine is the jail's address on the sheriff's pages; no county page explicitly naming the county seat could be opened.
- What was tried: camdensheriff.org root (refused: robots/timeout), one search; opened Sheriff, Divisions, Corrections, Inmate Services, Bail Bond Companies, Finance Division and the Inmate Handbook PDF; Corrections Staff and Inmate Guidelines pages refused (PROVENANCE_REQUIRED); camdencountyga.gov home and Departments H–Z returned server errors.
- State inspection/oversight: Georgia law makes the sheriff the county's jailer. The Georgia Sheriffs' Association, an association of the state's sheriffs rather than a state agency, publishes jail standards and a statewide monthly jail report.
These three offices decide who sits in a cell in Camden County and what it costs the people who live here. Nationally, almost 77% of the people who died in local jails in 2019 had not been convicted of anything, and suicide was the leading single cause of those deaths (Bureau of Justice Statistics, Mortality in Local Jails, 2000–2019).
